From battery wholesaler to leader in energy transition
For more than 40 years, Intercel has been providing our customers with the right battery every day. Having started out as a wholesaler of AGM batteries, we are now also a producer of customized batteries for the electrification of machinery and a partner in energy storage systems: we are involved in the energy transition across the board!
Four divisions, one character
To keep things clear, we have divided our operations into four divisions:
- Motive: The original trading division of Intercel that helps companies in the Netherlands and abroad get the best batteries for their products. More about Intercel Motive.
- Standby: For standby applications, we offer stationary backup battery solutions for critical and non-critical systems. Uninterrupted power ensures that systems continue to run, even in the event of a power failure. More about Intercel Standby.
- Electrification: This division designs and manufactures custom batteries for electrifying diesel machinery. Together with our partners, we give these machines a sustainable second life. More about Intercel Electrification.
- Storage: ESS is the abbreviation for “Energy Storage Systems”. This division’s mission is to solve the problems surrounding grid congestion: a major challenge resulting from the energy transition. - 1985 – Founding of Wetac in Ede, The Netherlands
- 1988 – Founding of Intercel in Haarlem, The Netherlands
- 2006 – Ede office & warehouse: Lead hub
- 2007 – Office opened in the UK
- 2011 – BSOL Deutschland joined Wetac
- 2013 – Power Storage Europe joined Intercel
- 2014 – Office opened in Czech Republic
- 2018 – First custom built battery for electrification
- 2019 – Office opened in Switzerland
- 2020 – Office opened in Greece
- 2021 – Shipping to 25th country in Europe
- 2025 – Wetac & Intercel join forces as one Intercel Group
- 2025 – New Haarlem office and production: Lithium hub
Our future
Our mission is “To power the future with Endless Energy“. And as the demand for reliable energy solutions continues to grow, so do we.
From our locations in Haarlem and Ede to our offices across Europe, we are building on more than 40 years of battery experience. Each location plays its own role. In Haarlem, we bring together engineering, battery assembly and production, energy storage and electrification. Ede is an important hub for our battery portfolio and logistics, while our European offices bring our expertise closer to customers across the continent.
Together, we are building one Intercel: combining local expertise, European reach and an ever-growing range of battery solutions. And with more applications becoming electric and energy increasingly needing to be stored and available when it matters, there is still plenty ahead of us.
